January: Tools to Navigate Difficult Times
Jan 9th 2021
Hi friends,
What a week huh? I hope you are doing ok. It was a frightening scene in DC and it’s not lost on me how the outcome would have been very different if it were BLM advocates instead.
We are going through a movement in human rights right now and as humans, we’ve been gifted with consciousness. We were taught how to talk and listen and learn.
I’m learning as I go but I can’t, as someone who practices yoga, not follow the Yamas and the Niyamas. These are the foundations of a yoga practice and guidelines on living this path. I have felt that when I divert from them, chaos overcomes my Self, anger, surprise, over felt sense of ego.
I’m being drawn to revisit these in study. I’m looking to them as a compass on how to navigate this time we’re living in and not to hide behind my white privilege. These concepts are there to show us how to show up as a human in this life, for all life.
So, I encourage you to not block out those who think differently to you. (Remember that these people are family and friends sometimes.) Especially in the arena of race. If we can’t talk to each other, then we’ll get no where. And this toxic circle of events will continue.
Remember to take a few extra breaths. To take care of yourself. To disconnect from social media and find a little rest when it’s needed most.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll explore each Yama and Niyama. We’ll find some peace in the power of pause. We’ll realign.
If you’d like to join me in this journey, you can sign up for classes through my website or watch on demand in the same place (no additional cost, same as drop in rate or included with membership). Links and updates are below to my schedule.
I’m here for you and look forward to seeing you soon.
